This must be reversed. It is unfair and unjust for Prison Officers and Custody Officers to be denied the basic and fundamental human right to withdraw one’s labour.

Prison Officers take their responsibilities and duties seriously. Taking strike action is always a last resort.

There has not been a single day of industrial action since the reintroduction of the right to strike in Scotland in 2015. In any civilised society workers should have the right to withdraw their labour.

In 1994 The Right to Strike for Prison Officers was removed by the Tory Government. The Blair Government failed to reinstate this right despite pledging to do so. Meanwhile, the Scottish Government reinstated The Right to Strike in 2015, not a single day has been lost to industrial action since.

The right to withdraw one's labour is a fundamental human right. Strike action is always a last resort. It is one of the few ways that workers can fight back against poor pay, punishing terms of service, and workplace conditions.

Banning The Right to Strike is the action of repressive regimes. Britain is supposed to be a democracy; that should include industrial democracy and universal human rights.

In recent weeks, the European Committee of Social Rights has reported that it believes the United Kingdom is in breach of its obligations under the European Social Charter in relation to the rights of Prison Officers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

I am therefore calling on you to:

1. Publicly state your support for reinstating The Right To Strike For all of the UKs Prison Officers

2. Write to the Deputy Prime Minister and Secretary of State for Justice, David Lammy calling on him to reinstate The Right To Strike for all Prison Officers

3. Share your support for reinstating The Right To Strike for all of the UKs Prison Officers through media and social media channels.

4. Ask parliamentary questions of the Government about when they will reinstate The Right To Strike?
